Wedge is now in university! Has been since May, technically, and has actually been on the beautiful campus that is her temporary home since September 1st.
Leaving the third person behind, it's been good so far. I'm enjoying the time I spend with my housemates (my residence has only 30 people in it) and am really, really appreciative that the small residences on campus (mine and three others) intermingle a lot. I don't know a lot of upper classmen, my RAs, and two other RAs from different residences are about it so far. But I don't really mind at all, everyone I've met has been very nice.
On the 10th (so yesterday) I participated in Shinerama, which is, for the uninitiated, a fundraising day for research into cures and prevention of cystic fibrosis (I said that so much yesterday...). To help raise money I, and MANY other students from the university, bused out to various locations in the province.
My group was a car wash group (and it was fucking freezing, which is particularly strange because it's September) but I only washed one. Myself and a friend were stationed outside the Kmart door with a donation box. And no, we didn't ask for handouts. She played the ukulele and we sang "I'm Yours" (Jason Mraz) and "Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" (Isreal Holyshitlongname). It was fun, our group alone raised about 400 dollars, and there were about 50 other groups out there!
It was awesome.
I've also been to exactly one party, and enjoyed myself for ten minutes, spent fifty more making conversation in a quiet corner with a friend and finally left just before midnight. I did have the apparently mandatory "awkward party moment". As I was leaving, someone hugged me from behind. I don't know who it was, some guy in a pink stripped dress shirt, but in his defence he at least smelled not completely disgusting.
So yeah, that's life so far. I get the occasional bout of homesickness, but not nearly as bad as I thought it'd be. I'm no longer in danger of crying every time I hear my dad's voice!
So, to my sisters (biological one and honourary one) lots of love and hugs (because except for that guy at the party and one of the RAs there is a lack of hugging in university). Send mom and dad my love.
To my friends, how are you? Hope you're having fun, and yes, I miss you to.
